Building energy modelling provides a quantitative analysis of a building’s energy performance.

The modelling tools can also be used to assess, or diagnose problems with, ventilation strategies, overheating, thermal comfort and lighting levels, amongst other things.

SAP Modelling Building NRG

SAP Modelling

New domestic buildings are required to meet or improve upon the Target Emission Rating (TER) and Target Fabric Energy Efficiency (TFEE). Building NRG’s assessors (OCDEAs) provide their in-depth knowledge in relation to building fabric (U-values, thermal bridging and air tightness) and building services in order to enable your development to meet the Building Regulations and local planning requirements.

Upon completion of the development we are accredited to convert the models into Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs).

Overheating & Thermal Comfort Building NRG

Overheating & Thermal Comfort

Risks of overheating and thermal comfort within domestic and non-domestic buildings are analysed using dynamic simulation software, accounting for building orientation, fenestration factors, thermal mass, U-values, thermal bridging, building air leakage, shading and ventilation strategies. Our team use DesignBuilder in accordance with CIBSE TM52: The Limits of Thermal Comfort: Avoiding Overheating in European Buildings or CIBSE TM59: Design methodology for the assessment of overheating risk in homes requirements, and can identify design improvements to eliminate risks and limit the need for mechanical cooling.

Daylight Building NRG

Daylight

To obtain credits under LEED, BREEAM and Green Start certification schemes, daylight analysis can be used to illustrate the distributions of daylight availability and glare within building zones, or areas of interest. Our team use DesignBuilder and their experience to suggest improvement to the fenestration form and specification to improve daylight performance.
